People & Lifestyle
Predominantly home to young families, creatives, young professionals, and empty-nesters, Menlo Park is a relatively quiet place to live. It is spread across twelve different neighborhoods, although for the most part, they're relatively similar in architectural design and layout. Most homes are single-family, with at least two bedrooms or more.
Menlo Park’s population is one of the most educated in the country. Considering its proximity to the biggest tech companies in the world, this isn’t too surprising. Typical professions of residents include doctors, engineers, and attorneys.
While the nightlife isn't huge in Menlo Park, it is close to the Greater Bay Area. Lots of people who live in Menlo Park commute to jobs in Silicon Valley and San Francisco.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
The majority of dining and shopping is located in Downtown Menlo Park
, which is home to a commercial district with several restaurants and independently-owned shops. It is known for having a lot of local businesses and mom-and-pop eateries, although there are some more upscale department stores, too.
Looking for interior design assistance? You can find a few artist studios and home decor retailers downtown, too. Flegel's
specializes in helping customers build their dream living environment, while Rococo Taupe
excels with kitchens and bathrooms, with a design showroom located downtown.
Dining options in Menlo Park are unique, as well. Amici's
is the best place for pizza, while Left Bank
is perfect for anyone who wants authentic French cuisine or a few cocktails.
Stanford Shopping Center
is one of the most popular shopping destinations in the area since it is a premier open-air shopping district featuring stores such as Macy's, Bloomingdales, and Cartier. There are also several great places to eat there, like Pacific Catch, Flemings, Tender Greens, and Shake Shack.
Things to Do
As a quieter neighborhood, Menlo Park is not a huge hub for things to do—most residents travel to the surrounding cities for day trips and other plans. However, one draw to the area is its many outdoor recreational spots.
Menlo Park is dotted with numerous parks, areas to walk dogs off-leash, trails, playgrounds, tennis courts, skate parks, and more. Flood Park, Bedwell Bayfront Park, and Fremont Park are among the most popular.
There are also frequent seasonal and holiday events hosted in Downtown Menlo.
There are a few places worth visiting, such as the historic Woodside Vineyards
, a gorgeous place for a weekend retreat. As the oldest winery in the San Mateo area, Woodside Vineyards was a pioneer behind the "boutique winery" movement.
Each grape is hand-picked and undergoes minimal processing to ensure the quality of each bottle of wine is as high as possible. It is a popular place for both locals and tourists to visit.
The Allied Arts Guild
is a stunning garden oasis that is home to several unique shops, artist studios, and Café Wisteria. It is a popular venue for special events and weddings, but it is also open for people to relax, meet up with friends, shop, and meander around the vibrant landscape.
The guild is operated by the Allied Arts Guild Auxiliary and fundraises for the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. Several shops are run by volunteers, with funds donated to the hospital.
